English Championships 2022 - Worcester

We took 11 students to what is still only the club's second ever competition since starting in January 2020.
Current British Champion Sasha Polykoff 9, now in a higher height category still made the final and came away with Silver. Clubmate Isla Bird 9 was in the same division and took bronze, facing Sasha in the semi-final.

Another standout was Aaron Arnold 10, in the Boys PeeWee Green Belt Sparring Division. At the British last year he had 4 fights and yet didn't win a medal; this year he again found himself in a huge group. But he embodied the Taekwon-Do tenets of Perseverance and Indomitable Spirit and fought his way to the Final, this time getting a silver medal for his hard work.

Ruby Pegrum 12 and Ariella Dixon-Bellot 9, also got Bronze in their Sparring Division. Ariella teamed up with her sister Alyce 7 and got Silver in the Tag Team Sparring. Isla Bird and Sasha Polykoff teamed up and got gold, as did Ruby Pegrum and Keira Miles 11.

Katherine Wickham 28, in her first ever competition won bronze in Tag Team Sparring. Instructor Cheryl Preston, recently promoted to 2nd Dan entered the Executive Womens Black Belt sparring and narrowly missed out of a medal in a strongly contested division.

Other Dunmow TKD students who contested but did not medal were Aaron Arnold's mother Bryony 44, Tony Miles 12 and Noel Chenery 7. Noel has entered every event in every competition available to him and is desperately unlucky to have not medalled yet. His time will definitely come.

The overall medal haul was 2 Silver and 3 Bronze in Individual Sparring, Plus 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze in Tag Team Sparring. The club is committed to representing at National and Regional Competitions.

SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL THE MUMS AND DADS WHO CAME TO CHEER ON THEIR CHILDREN. WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE ANY OF THIS WITHOUT YOU.
